Interviews with Meco
- Meco's appearance on TV (1978)
Meco only made a major appearance on TV. It was on Dick Clark's Show to promote the release of MECO's masterpiece "The Wizard of Oz".
- Interview with Meco Monardo in 1980
This interesting clip was sent by Patrick, who recorded it live from the radio in 1980 and kept it as a treasure. Thanks Pat!
- Interview with Meco Monardo in 1998
This interview belongs to a series of interviews with artists of the 70's and 80's that can be found at RetroRewind (there you can find this interview in RealAudio format).
Sound and Video Samples
- Samples from The Complete Star Wars Collection
This link will open a new browser window with the Samples Page of the Complete Star Wars Collection. From there you can listen to samples from all tracks of this CD and to order your own copy.
- Love Theme from Shogun
This is side-A of one of my favorite singles: Shogun. Read about this single at the Discography.
- What can you get a wookie for Christmas (when he already owns a comb?)
This song, as most of you know, belongs to an original album produced by Meco in 1980 with the backup of Lucasfilm. It isn't among my favorites (read my review here ) but it's very appropiate for Xmas!
- Meco's trombone solo in I'm coming out
Many of you asked about this even thoughis not a MECO record. It's a solo played by Meco in 1980 Diana Ross' album "Diana". As far as I know this is the only jazz trombone solo in a pop hit in the last 50 years. Meco doesn't appear in the credits of the album because Diana wasn't happy with the producer's job .
- Moondancer Incident
Did you ever wonder what R2D2 is talking about with that other robot in '79 Moondancer ? For years the so-called "Moondancer Incident" was the matter of rumor and speculation, but finally it can be told... Find out everything in this exclusive report .
- Anything Goes
Inspired by the opening theme of Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom, this song was only featured as A-side of a single ( click here to read a review). I guess it was released just for the occasion.
- Lord of the Jungle
Perhaps one of the best "Jungle" inspired songs. It was featured in B-side of Superman and Other Galactic Heroes . It's one of those themes full of cool funky feeling, if you know what I mean ;-)
- MECO's Theme
This song belongs to " Encounters of every kind ". Although prominently featured in the 1978 movie "Thank God it's friday" (it plays for about six minutes) it never reached the Soundtrack LP because some discrepancies with the producers of the movie (they wanted someone else to remix the track!). So you'll only hear Meco's music or see his name if you watch the movie or the end credits (see the picture below). But Meco's work also appears "by accident" at the end of the movie, when the DJ is sorting out his records... MECO's "Star Wars" is the LP he has in his hands! (see picture below).
Click HERE to see to see a movie clip (RealVideo 8, 386K) of the ending scene when the DJ is storing MECO's LP into its cover sleeve and Donna Summer makes her last appearance...![]()

- As Time Goes By
If you read my review about Pop Goes the Movies , you'll know that I don't like it much. It's however one of the albums preferred by many MECO fans (check " TheBest of MECO according to the fans "). Despite my opinion on the LP as a whole, there are excerpts that I'd save, like this wonderful orchestration of the classic theme from Casablanca.
- Fantasy
This is for you Paul!. It is a song by Harold Wheeler that only appeared as the B-side of the single" Themes from The Wizard of Oz ". It has the nice disco flavor of late 70s and the typical sound of Harold's compositions/arrangements.
- Star Wars 1983 Edition
This excerpt is taken from the remix of MECO's Star Wars as appeared in Ewok Celebration . I've selected the section where more changes were introduced relative to the original 1977 mix.
- Main Theme from Shogun
This single is one of my favorites. In my opinion, one of the best arrangements by MECO. Although it sounds like Harold's, it was Lance and Meco who made it.
- Meteorites
This is one of the original themes composed by Harold Wheeler for " Music from Star Trek and Music from the Black Hole ". It's a good funk theme (listen to that slap bass!) with some disco influences.
- The Boys
This ballad is the only instrumental in " MECO's Impressions of An American Werewolf in London ". It's a beautiful song.
- Klingon Attack
This sample is extracted from " Music from Star Trek ". This song (my favorite from that album) also appeared in the rare compilation LP " Across the Galaxy ".
- Raiders of the Lost Ark
This excerpt is extracted from the single Raiders March .
- The beginning of the Topsy single (WAV)
As you can hear, this is not what you get in The Best of Meco album!
